Can I send messages in excess of 160 characters?
You have the capability of sending messages in excess of 160 characters through our services.
When sending a message in excess of 160 characters, the message is broken up in to message parts of 153 characters, and sent to the handset. The handset then reassembles the message, displaying the message as one extended-length, concatenated message.
When sending an extended-length message you are charged for each 153 character part that is sent. This charging process is dictated by the network operators.
You can set the maximum number of message parts that you will allow to be sent through our message-sending applications, as follows:
- Click on the ADMIN PANEL button
- Select the ACCOUNT OPTIONS left-hand menu option
- Choose the appropriate setting from the NUMBER OF PARTS drop-down menu
The default setting is 3, enabling a maximum message length of 459 characters, or 198 characters, if you are sending a message using the Unicode character set.
Please note that the TextOMS service is not affected by this setting, due to a limitation of Microsoft Outlook. With TextOMS a message has a fixed maximum of 3 parts. This equates to 459 characters with the GSM character set, or 198 characters with the UNICODE character set.
